Potential Prayer: The Sorrowful Mysteries and/or the Stations of the Cros
Potential Fast Intention: For the clergy and the Church superiors, that they seek the counsel and instruction of the Holy Spirit in all matters of leading the faithful.
Potential Give: Donate to the Cardinal’s Appeal.
Fasting Inspiration for the Day: Catechism of the Council of Trent:
“Fasting is most intimately connected with prayer. For the mind of one who is filled with food and drink is so borne down as not to be able to raise itself to the contemplation of God, or even to understand what prayer means.”
Comments of the Day: Exterior mortification and interior mortification are both necessary to develop in the spiritual life and combat the seven deadly sins. Both help the other to understand and follow God’s will.
As Saint John of the Cross says; “he who inculcates loose doctrine regarding the mortification of the flesh, should not be believed though he be confirmed in his preaching by miracles.”
Turning from the attachments of this world, and our innermost desires and attractions to them, is vital in overcoming temptation, defeating the enemy and lifting our souls towards God.
Enjoy the second Friday of Lent!
